Home / Health Under 65 / ACA Marketplace
Marketplace health insurance, with the savings you qualify for.
Most households that buy their own coverage get a premium tax credit that cuts the monthly cost, sometimes to near zero. Here is how it works and how to enroll.

How the subsidy works
The Marketplace estimates your household income for the coming year and caps what you pay for a benchmark plan at a percentage of that income. The government pays the rest directly to the insurance company each month. Your income and household size decide the amount, not your health.
For example, a family of four earning around $60,000 might see the monthly price of a mid-level plan drop by several hundred dollars. Lower incomes can also unlock cost-sharing reductions, which shrink deductibles and copays on Silver plans.
What you will need
- An estimate of next year's household income
- Dates of birth and Social Security numbers for everyone enrolling
- Your immigration document numbers if you are not a U.S. citizen
- A list of your doctors and prescriptions, so we can check the network
When you can enroll
Open Enrollment runs November 1 through January 15. Enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1.
Outside of that, a life event opens a 60-day Special Enrollment Period. Common triggers:
- Losing coverage from a job, COBRA, Medicaid or a parent's plan
- Moving to a new ZIP code or state
- Getting married, having a baby or adopting
- A change in immigration status or gaining lawful presence
- Release from incarceration
- Household income under 150% of the federal poverty level, which allows monthly enrollment in most states
